About Tariq Chhatari

Professor Tariq Chhatari is an Urdu fiction writer and critic. He has published a collection of short stories, Baagh ka Darwaza ,(Educational Book House, Aligarh, 2001 republished in 2011 and 2019); and has edited a volume of essays, Jadeed Afsana ; (Urdu-Hind) published by Educational Boook House, Aligarh, 1993 republished 2019 by Brown Books. His novels and fiction have been translated into several Indian languages including Hindi, Telegu, Marathi, Punjabi and also in English. He is the recipient of the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Akademi Lifetime Achievement Award for fiction. He has also received the Lamhi Samman for fiction. Several full-length studies have been conducted on his art of writing fiction. He worked with All India Radio for close to a decade before joining the Department of Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He lives in Aligarh.
