About Jayalakshmi Kumar
‘Love Song’ was first published around 1938 in K Ramakotiswara Rao's Triveni: A Journal of the Indian Renaissance. We are told it can still be found in the Triveni digital archives. We thank Kirtana Kumar, author Jayalakshmi Kumar’s granddaughter, for bringing the work to our attention. It was reprinted and may be read in A Wedding beneath a Banyan Tree by Ganga Kumar Powell, the author’s daughter, Silverbird Publishing, Australia 2020 and Arcadia (Australian Scholarly Publishing), Melbourne 2020. The story was reprinted in Madras Musings in 2014. It was prepared for Out of Print by editor Zui Kumar-Reddy, the author’s great granddaughter. Madras-based Jayalakshmi Kumar, a writer and artist with a strong social conscience, was one of the first women to be writing short fiction in English in Colonial India.2024-05-23T12:28:20+00:00By Jayalakshmi Kumar|
