Alka Dass is a South African artist from Durban, currently residing in Johannesburg. She studied at the Durban University of Technology. She works predominantly within mix media and painting. A multidisciplinary artist who draws inspiration from Hindu mythology and rituals, Dass uses archival imagery to investigate the cultural and psychological spaces that are traditionally assigned to females in Desi culture. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 2017 she won ‘The Young Female Residency Award’. Dass’ work interests lie in female identity and gender equality. More about her on her website.
